Without even knowing it
For the last time
Forever
My skin bathed in the sun
Tanning to a sweet walnut brown
Obsidian night hair sticks to my neck
My box of ponies overflow
With lavenders and cherry blossoms
And tangled tinsel manes
Gravel crunches beneath
My lapis light-up sneakers
Squeezing my toes into a tight hug
My favourite familiar face smiles at me
Her onyx hair braided in two
Dances in the gentle warm breeze
I pick up my pace and my heart does as well
The gaps in her teeth become more obvious
The closer I get to her
Her sweet cherry scent tickles my nose
As my box starts to slip from my sweaty hands
I tighten my grip but it’s no use
I lose my grip and footing
As ponies jump into the air
Along with their tiny brushes and shoes
My hands skid and scrape on the burning cement
Gravel viscously claws at my skin
And a pebble scratches my elbow
My friend rushes over to me as I lie on my stomach
With my heart beating out of my hands
I flip onto my back and let out a groan
I look at my dusty hands
Covered in dirt and blood
My friend’s worried eyes meet mine
My hands scream at the top of their lungs
I can feel the tears starting to pool in my eyes
Yet a laugh escapes my throat when my eyes meet hers
My friend, my ponies and myself
All covered in dust and pebbles
Fill the sticky air with grins and giggles
Without even knowing it
For the last time
Forever
